The Government of Canada today announced $7<\/strong><\/span>5<\/strong>0<\/strong> million commitment to<\/span>\u00a0support Canad<\/span>a\u2019s growing\u00a0<\/span>cleantech sector by<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>recapitaliz<\/span>ing\u00a0<\/span>Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC)<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0as part of its\u00a0<\/span>plan:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/i>A Healthy Environment and a Healthy Economy<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This commitment<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>comes at a critical time for Canadian entrepreneurs, as businesses of all sizes adapt to meet the current economic realities. This funding also charts a path for Canada\u2019s economic future, enabling cleantech companies to grow and scale to meet domestic and global demand for solutions\u00a0<\/span>in the\u00a0<\/span>Net Zero<\/span>\u00a0era<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“Continued support for Sustainable Development Technology Canada is critical for cleantech startup and scale-up companies to build Canada\u2019s clean industrial advantage,\u201d said Innovation, Science and Industry Minister Navdeep Bains. \u201cOur Government\u2019s plan will create economic growth, cut pollution, and ensure Canadians continue to have good-paying jobs by supporting the entrepreneurs who are making low-carbon products that the world wants to buy now and into the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span><\/span>Today\u2019s announcement will be very welcome news for our companies across Canada<\/span><\/span>,\u201d said\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Chair of\u00a0<\/span><\/span>SDTC<\/span><\/span>\u2019s<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Board of Directors Annette Verschuren. \u201c<\/span><\/span>Clean technology is revolutionizing our world, and Canadian entrepreneurs are leading the way.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>From transforming waste into source materials, to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and creating cleaner air, water and soil, SDTC companies\u00a0<\/span><\/span>are developing world-class solutions that are being deployed and delivering\u00a0<\/span><\/span>real<\/span><\/span>\u00a0environmental benefits.<\/span><\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Cana<\/span><\/span>da<\/span><\/span>\u00a0has joined\u00a0<\/span><\/span>countries around the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>world, including China, the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>UK,<\/span><\/span>\u00a0France, and Japan<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span>\u00a0in introducing legally binding Net Zero commitments.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Hundreds of\u00a0<\/span><\/span>multinational\u00a0<\/span><\/span>corporations, as well as m<\/span><\/span>ajor Canadian companies<\/span><\/span>\u00a0such as Maple Leaf Foods, Shopify and Canadian Natural Resources have also made the commitment\u00a0<\/span><\/span>to achieving Net Zero<\/span><\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>With\u00a0<\/span><\/span>industries scour<\/span><\/span>ing<\/span><\/span>\u00a0the world for\u00a0<\/span><\/span>technologies that can help them take all emissions and waste out of their businesses<\/span><\/span>, the<\/span><\/span>\u00a0market for sustainable solutions is growing exponentially.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As the largest funder of cleantech\u00a0<\/span>small and medium size enterprises<\/span>\u00a0in Canada, SDTC<\/span>\u00a0play<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>a crucial<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>role in\u00a0<\/span>supporting\u00a0<\/span>entrepreneurs to<\/span>\u00a0seize the opport<\/span>unities of\u00a0<\/span>the<\/span>\u00a0Net Zero economy.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Th<\/span>e Government of Canada\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>commitment\u00a0<\/span>will enable SDTC to keep the momentum going and support\u00a0<\/span>even more\u00a0<\/span>Canadian cleantech entrepreneurs in the coming years.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
