Partnering with over 60 accelerators across Canada,\u00a0Sustainable Development Technology Canada announced\u00a0funding\u00a0of\u00a0<\/span>$3.8M\u00a0<\/strong>for 38\u00a0promising new\u00a0cleantech companies across Canada<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0its biggest seed fund round to date.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With\u00a0funding for\u00a0companies\u00a0in every corner of the\u00a0country\u00a0\u2013\u00a0this round\u00a0showcases\u00a0the regional diversity of\u00a0Canadian\u00a0entrepreneurs.\u00a0Today\u2019s funding also\u00a0includes\u00a0the largest cohort of women-led firms\u00a0approved in a single\u00a0Seed Fund\u00a0round,\u00a0representing\u00a032% of the funded\u00a0companies.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

SDTC\u2019s seed funding will allow today\u2019s entrepreneurs to launch their innovations to the next level.\u00a0The Seed Fund Program supports promising early-stage Canadian cleantech entrepreneurs by providing grants of $50,000 to $100,000\u00a0to\u00a0<\/span>innovative\u00a0technology\u00a0projects\u00a0with the potential for\u00a0important\u00a0<\/span>environmental sustainability.\u00a0Seed Fund applicants are nominated by<\/span>\u00a0SDTC\u2019s\u00a0partnership of\u00a0Canadian\u00a0accelerators, incubators and<\/span>\u00a0entrepreneurial service organizations. The\u202fhigh-potential early-stage firms\u202freceiving funds\u202ftoday\u00a0are developing technologies that\u202fspan a variety of\u202fsectors, from\u202fdata-enabled technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT)\u00a0to producing\u00a0lab-cultivated meat,\u00a0to sustainably launching satellites into space,\u00a0<\/span>these companies are bringing ground-breaking\u00a0sustainability\u00a0solutions to Canadians.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

SDTC is also working in partnership with the\u00a0<\/span>Innovation Asset Collective<\/span><\/i><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>(IAC) on supporting these new companies to develop intellectual property (IP) knowledge and strengthen their strategic positions and IP portfolios. As Canada’s IP leader, the role of IAC is to empower the sustained success of Canadian SMEs in the data driven cleantech through leadership in IP strategy and its use to create global business advantage.\u00a0SDTC\u2019s new Seed Fund cohort will be offered complimentary Associate Membership with IAC.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ava Technologies Inc.<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(British Columbia), supported by\u00a0<\/span>Alacrity Foundation of B.C.<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0has\u00a0developed\u00a0AI-powered smart gardens that enable customers to grow their own fresh, nutritious produce on a micro-scale indoors at home.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Bioform Solutions Inc.<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(British Columbia), supported by\u00a0<\/span>Entrepreneurship @UBC<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>drives\u00a0customers\u00a0through its patented technology\u00a0to replace plastic from their operations with home compostable and recyclable products.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Moment Energy Inc.<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(British Columbia), supported by\u00a0<\/span>New Ventures BC<\/span><\/a>, offers\u00a0energy storage systems (ESS) using retired EV batteries for on grid and off-grid applications.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. pH7 Technologies Inc.<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(British Columbia), supported by\u00a0<\/span>New Ventures BC<\/span><\/a>, extracts\u00a0precious metals from landfills with a net-zero environmental footprint using a proprietary green solvent.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n

  13. ioAirFlow Incorporated<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(Manitoba), supported by\u00a0<\/span>North Forge East<\/span><\/a>, helps older commercial buildings find ways to improve their energy efficiency and internal environment.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  14. 2S Water<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(Ontario), supported by\u00a0<\/span>Climate Ventures<\/span><\/a>\u00a0provides data that\u00a0operators\u00a0<\/span> need to reduce emissions, reuse water, and make sure that water released back into the environment is clean and safe.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  15. ALT TEX Inc.<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(Ontario), supported by\u00a0<\/span>Climate Ventures<\/span><\/a>, is a\u00a0B2B biomaterials start-up creating sustainable textiles chemically regenerated from food waste that are biodegradable and carbon neutral.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n

A Friendlier Company Inc.<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(Ontario), supported by\u00a0<\/span>Innovation Guelph<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0offers food service businesses a turnkey reusable packaging option that allows them to elevate their takeout experience, engage with customers, and reach their sustainability goals.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  17. Caro Meats<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(Ontario), supported by\u00a0<\/span>Velocity<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0uses tissue engineering-based technologies to develop cultivated meat with the expected features from structured animal-derived meat.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
