{"id":502,"date":"2017-08-08T14:19:14","date_gmt":"2017-08-08T14:19:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sdtc-2024-staging.sociationdev.com\/?p=502"},"modified":"2020-01-05T17:23:21","modified_gmt":"2020-01-05T17:23:21","slug":"investments-made-in-ontario-will-lead-to-cutting-edge-environmentally-friendly-technologies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sdtc-2024-staging.sociationdev.com\/en\/investments-made-in-ontario-will-lead-to-cutting-edge-environmentally-friendly-technologies\/","title":{"rendered":"Investments made in Ontario will lead to cutting-edge, environmentally friendly technologies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ontarians will benefit from new jobs created by innovations that power electric vehicles and reduce plastics in the environment, thanks to a $15.5-million investment by the Government of Canada.<\/p>\n<p>This investment in six Toronto-area companies will create well-paying middle-class jobs as a result of the new business opportunities generated by the development of technologies that lead to less pollution and healthier communities.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement was made today by the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development.<\/p>\n<p>The investments include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$3.8 million for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/electrovaya.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>Electrovaya Inc.<\/u><\/a>\u00a0of Mississauga to develop safe and long-lasting electric batteries for commercial vehicles, contributing to the prevention of climate change;<\/li>\n<li>$3 million for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ridebionx.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>BionX International Corporation<\/u><\/a>\u00a0of Aurora to develop a smaller, more powerful lightweight propulsion system to improve its award-winning e-bike systems;<\/li>\n<li>$2.7 million for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.3enano.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>3E Nano Inc.<\/u><\/a>\u00a0of Kitchener to create a new window coating to make buildings and vehicles more energy efficient, reducing energy consumption;<\/li>\n<li>$2.2 million for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/greenmantra.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>GreenMantra Technologies<\/u><\/a>\u00a0of Brantford to develop new ways to convert recycled plastics into new products, resulting in less waste sent to landfills;<\/li>\n<li>$1.9 million for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.peakpowerenergy.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>Peak Power Inc.<\/u><\/a>\u00a0of Toronto to improve the energy storage capacity of batteries, ultimately reducing costs for businesses and greenhouse gas emissions; and<\/li>\n<li>$1.8 million for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/vivecrop.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>Vive Crop Protection<\/u><\/a>\u00a0of Toronto to create environmentally friendly products and technologies that increase farm efficiency and productivity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These projects are being funded through\u00a0Sustainable Development Technology Canada<u>,<\/u>\u00a0which works with Canadian companies to bring early-stage clean technologies to market.<\/p>\n<p>Investments in clean technology are part of the Government\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.budget.gc.ca\/2017\/docs\/plan\/chap-01-en.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>Innovation and Skills Plan<\/u><\/a><u>,\u00a0<\/u>a multi-year strategy to create well-paying jobs for the middle class and those working hard to join it.<\/p>\n<h4>Quotes<\/h4>\n<blockquote><p>Our government\u2019s investments in clean technology reflect our commitment to protecting the planet.
