Government of Alberta funding of $15.3 million, through\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/eralberta.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>Emissions Reduction Alberta<\/u><\/a>\u00a0(ERA) and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/albertainnovates.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>Alberta Innovates<\/u><\/a>, was also announced today by the Honourable Christina Gray, Minister of Labour and Minister Responsible for Democratic Renewal, on behalf of Deron Bilous, Minister of Economic Development and Trade, for a total investment of $28.8 million in 11 Canadian clean tech businesses.<\/p>\n<p>The funded projects will result in lower greenhouse gas emissions, cleaner methods for oil and gas mining, better energy efficiency in buildings, and other environmental and economic benefits that ensure the health of our communities.<\/p>\n<h4>Investments include:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>$10 million ($5 million each from federal and provincial governments) for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.acceleware.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>Acceleware Ltd.<\/u><\/a>\u00a0to develop energy-efficient ways to explore for oil deposits;<\/li>\n<li>$8.2 million ($3.2 million federal, $5 million provincial) for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.purlucid.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>PurLucid Treatment Solutions, Inc.<\/u><\/a>\u00a0to develop a new process to cool steam created during oil production, reducing energy demand and lowering costs;<\/li>\n<li>$2.4 million ($1.2 million each from federal and provincial governments) for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/marinerpartners.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>Mariner Partners Inc.<\/u><\/a>\u00a0to develop software to improve energy efficiency in smart buildings;<\/li>\n<li>$1.9 million ($982,000 each from federal and provincial governments) for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.calscan.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>Calscan Solutions<\/u><\/a>\u00a0to develop new control systems to eliminate methane emissions from pneumatic equipment;<\/li>\n<li>$1 million ($500,000 each from federal and provincial governments) for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.agarcorp.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>Agar Corporation, Ltd<\/u><\/a>. to develop new systems for water treatment in oil extraction operations;<\/li>\n<li>$1 million ($500,000 each from federal and provincial governments) for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/waterstrider.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>waterStrider Treatment Inc.<\/u><\/a>\u00a0to develop a new process to treat water recovered during oil and gas production;<\/li>\n<li>$1 million ($500,000 each from federal and provincial governments) for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.saltworkstech.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>Saltworks Technologies Inc.<\/u><\/a>\u00a0to build a water desalination plant to eliminate the freshwater needed for oil production;<\/li>\n<li>$1 million ($500,000 each from federal and provincial governments) for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/forwardwater.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>Forward Water Technologies<\/u><\/a>\u00a0to develop a new water treatment process to lower costs and reduce the need for wastewater disposal during oil production;<\/li>\n<li>$1 million ($500,000 each from federal and provincial governments) for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.groundeffects.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>Ground Effects Environmental Services Inc.<\/u><\/a>\u00a0to develop a new process to reuse water in oilfield operations and reduce the demand for freshwater;<\/li>\n<li>$950,000 ($475,000 each from federal and provincial governments) for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fossilwater.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>Fossil Water Corporation<\/u><\/a>\u00a0to adapt water treatment processes to reduce costs associated with the transport and disposal of wastewater produced during oil production; and<\/li>\n<li>$322,000 ($161,000 each from federal and provincial governments) for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/sewervue.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>SewerVUE Technology Corp.<\/u><\/a>\u00a0to develop new technologies to detect failing asbestos cement pipes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These projects were selected through two joint calls, one involving SDTC and ERA and the other, SDTC and Alberta Innovates.<\/p>\n<p>Investments in clean technology are part of the federal government\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.budget.gc.ca\/2017\/docs\/plan\/chap-01-en.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>Innovation and Skills Plan<\/u><\/a><u>,\u00a0<\/u>a multi-year strategy to create well-paying jobs for the middle class and those working hard to join it.<\/p>\n<h4>Quotes<\/h4>\n<blockquote><p>Our government\u2019s investments in clean technology reflect our commitment to innovation and protecting the environment.
