Sustainable Development Technology Canada today announced seed funding of <\/span>$2.6 million <\/span>for 26 promising new companies across Canada. These companies are developing new technologies that will fight climate change, contribute to the circular economy and promote the well-being of people within their communities with the natural environment. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

SDTC\u2019s latest round of seed funding recipients were nominated by over <\/span>20 accelerators across Canada<\/span>.\u00a0 This new cohort of SDTC-supported companies showcases the breadth of sustainable innovation happening across the country, as well as the growth of women-led firms which comprise 54% of the funded companies.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u202fhigh-potential firms\u202freceiving funds\u202ftoday are developing technologies that\u202fspan a variety of\u202fsectors, from <\/span>designing smart batteries, AI-Powered automated traffic monitoring, to offering sustainable products for menstruation.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

SDTC Seed funding supports promising early-stage Canadian sustainable tech entrepreneurs by providing grants of $50,000 to $100,000 to innovative technology projects with the potential to generate economic and environmental benefits to Canada. Applicants for seed funding are nominated by SDTC\u2019s partnership of Canadian accelerators, incubators and entrepreneurial service organizations. Below are 26 Canadian\u202fcompanies approved by\u202fSDTC\u202ffor\u202fseed\u202ffunding\u202fduring\u202fthe second round of\u202fthe 2021-22 fiscal year.\u202fThe accelerator\u202fpartner\u202fthat nominated each company is also\u202flisted.\u00a0 These companies are grouped according to SDTC\u2019s three sustainability impact areas of focus: climate change, circular economy, and people, communities and nature.\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

  2. Nanode Battery Technologies<\/span><\/a> (Alberta), supported by <\/span>Foresight Cleantech Accelerator Centre<\/span><\/a>, designs and produces high-performance electrodes for Lithium and Sodium-ion batteries to help supercharge battery energy storage capabilities.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Latys Intelligence Inc.<\/span><\/a> (Quebec), supported by <\/span>TandemLaunchVentures<\/span><\/a>, is leveraging groundbreaking research to create the world\u2019s first non-reciprocal relay system for wireless communication infrastructure.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. KorrAI<\/span><\/a> (Nova Scotia), supported by <\/span>Volta<\/span><\/a>, combines AI, machine learning, drone surveys, and rapidly evolving satellite data to track and manage critical resources for the mining and environmental insurance sectors.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Electro Carbon Inc.<\/span><\/a> (Quebec), supported by <\/span>Esplanade<\/span><\/a>, is <\/span>converting carbon dioxide into high value specialty green chemicals using a CO2 electrochemical process converting CO2 and water into formate salts and formic acid (FA).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  6. 3E8 Inc.<\/span><\/a> (Quebec), supported by <\/span>TandemLaunch Ventures<\/span><\/a>, develops lightspeed photonic AI silicon, systems and software to achieve a 1000x leap in AI compute throughput and energy efficiency.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  7. CACITH inc. (Tengiva)<\/span><\/a> (Quebec), supported by <\/span>Centech<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>provides a<\/span> new digital platform enabling real-time sourcing in the textile supply chain to help reduce GHGs.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  8. Growing Greener Innovations<\/span><\/a> (Alberta), supported by <\/span>Innovate Edmonton<\/span><\/a>, is <\/span>developing modular energy storage solutions to replace diesel generators.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n

Pacific Ridge Corporation<\/span><\/a> (Saskatchewan), supported by <\/span>The Alacrity Foundation of B.C.,<\/span><\/a> is a regenerative farming cooperative, working to use bacterial strains to develop soil and seed treatments for pulse crops that ward off Aphanomyces (water moulds).\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n

Joni<\/span><\/a> (British Columbia), supported by <\/span>UVic Coast Capital Innovation Centre<\/span><\/a>, is innovating menstrual care products to make them healthier and more sustainable. They are bringing consumers pads that biodegrade in 12-months versus the 300+ years for conventional plastic options.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n

Viridis Research Inc.<\/span><\/a> (British Columbia), supported by <\/span>Entrepreneurship @UBC<\/span><\/a>, offers VEOX regenerative filters that can be used both at scale in household appliances, textile manufacturing & commercial washing machine markets to remove microplastics from water.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
