Government of Canada invests in world-leading clean water technology<\/p>\n
DELTA, BC, May 23, 2019 \u2013 A strong economy and a clean environment go hand-in-hand. That\u2019s why the Government of Canada is supporting the development of technologies that lead to less pollution, healthier communities and the creation of well-paying middle-class jobs.<\/p>\n
Today, the Honourable Carla Qualtrough, Minister of Public Services and Procurement and Accessibility, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development announced an investment of $2.1 million in Mangrove Water Technologies.<\/p>\n
Funding for Mangrove Water Technologies Inc. will support its zero discharge desalination technology, which will reduce the environmental impact of oil and gas sector operations. This revolutionary innovation treats saline wastewater and converts the salts into value-added chemicals such as hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide that can be used on-site. This technology helps oil and gas producers reduce costs and water usage, resulting in cleaner air and water over the long term. It will also help to maintain three jobs and create up to ten additional jobs.<\/p>\n
This project received funding and support from Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC), which helps Canadian entrepreneurs accelerate the development and deployment of globally competitive clean technology solutions.<\/p>\n
Investments in clean technology are part of the Government\u2019s Innovation and Skills Plan, a multi-year strategy to position Canada as a global leader in innovation and create good middle-class jobs right across the country.<\/p>\n

This SDTC investment will help to accelerate commercialization with our customer and project partner Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. through an in-field demonstration of a fully integrated 100m3 system at their mining site in Alberta. This system will also serve as the commercial building block to access other industrial applications beyond oil & gas. The world is taking notice of Canada\u2019s clean technology leadership. Recently, 12 Canadian companies were recognized on the 2019 Global Cleantech 100 list. Of those, 10 have received support from Sustainable Development Technology Canada: that\u2019s 10 percent of the world\u2019s leading clean tech companies.
\nMangrove is headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, and will demonstrate its project in Fort McMurray, Alberta.
\nSDTC has invested over $1 billion in more than 300 companies, creating 12,000 well-paying jobs and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 13.8 megatonnes annually.
\nBudget 2017 set aside more than $2.3 billion to boost the growth of Canada\u2019s clean tech space. That\u2019s the largest public investment ever committed to this field in Canada.
